Nobuyuki-san – Master Craftsman, Artist, Photographer and Friend
I meet Nobuyuki-san (Nobuyuki Takahashi) about 10 years ago during a visit to Yonezawa, Yamagata, Japan.
Ever since then I make it a point to visit my friend and share stories over a cup of coffee in his home studio.
Nobuyuki-san has been carving Otakapoppo for 35 years now and highly recognized in Japan and around the world for his craftsmanship skills. Although Nobuyuki-san pieces are simple, it takes a great deal of skill to create objects of the highest quality. His travels took him to Disneyland in Calif., on six different occasions, where his demonstrations were popular and onlookers were full of curiosity as they watched him create a bird with a layer of beautiful feathers using only his chisel and a log. We hope your inspired by Nobuyuki Takahashi skills.
On this visit and with Nobuyuki-san permission we created this video to highlight some of his great skills including his wood carving of-course, his art, photography, calligraphy, and music. I hope you enjoy watching as much as I had visiting him.
Thank you for watching.
