Uesuge Shrine and Samurai Village Yonezawa Yamagata Japan

26 10 2015

Morning walk as the sun rose over Uesugi Shrine and Samurai Village from a place I have been visiting for many years. It a place of the Uesugi Shrine, Japanese gardens and history together with a center for visual arts.

In February the community holds The festival of lights from this place where 300 snow lanterns are made and over 3000 candles light the way. Local vendors set up with hot food and my favorite is the local traditional precision drum band that plays every hour.

On this early morning visit I woke up early to watch the sun rise over the shrine. I also want to to a LIVE broadcast using the Periscope app. The live broadcast went well with many friends and family tuning in to watch. However, using the internet connection and a sim card I purchased in Japan was not the greatest from live video broadcasting. Hens, the quality of the video is not the greatest in this case. Lesson learned.

This was a great morning to do this walk as it was a sunny day. Over the next few days I wanted to do the walk again and only record the video however, the balance of the week the weather was not the best.

I hope you enjoy my morning walk through the Uesugi Shrine and Samurai Village.

Thank you for watching.

Pumpkin Patch and Corn, Autumn / Fall / Seasons

26 10 2015

Stopped off at a local farm to buy sweet corn but they were out. So I took a walk into the fields to see for myself. The fields were all dried up and what was left of the corn stalks were dead. I then headed over to the pumpkin patch to see the usually massive rows of squash. However here too the crop was done with just a small amount of pumpkins ready for the picking.

Great day in New England but you could tell that the season is coming to an end this year. Ready for winter? WHAT!

Thank you for watching.

Note: This video was made using my own footage and recordings from my Snapchat and Periscope LIVE broadcasts.

Storm, Plymouth Rock, The Mayflower and Rough Seas

6 10 2015

A Storm was brewing on the east coast today as we decided to take a ride to the ocean as the sea can be very interesting on days like this. We chose to head to Plymouth Massachusetts the home of Plymouth Rock, The Mayflower and history. It was a windy and wet day and in the harbor you can see the whitecaps of the rough sea. A little further up the road by Burt’s Landing the waves were crashing over the sea wall flooding the parking area. Below is a reference to some historical information of this area.

Thank you for watching.
==================

Plymouth Rock is the traditional site of disembarkation of William Bradford and the Mayflower Pilgrims who founded Plymouth Colony in 1620. It is an important symbol in American history. There are no contemporaneous references to the Pilgrims’ landing on a rock at Plymouth, and it is not referred to in Edward Winslow’s Mourt’s Relation (1620–21) or in Bradford’s journal Of Plymouth Plantation (1620–47). The first written reference to the rock’s existence was recorded in 1715, when it is described in the town boundary records as “a great rock.” The first written reference to Pilgrims landing on a rock is found 121 years after they landed. A rock traditionally identified as the Plymouth Rock has long been memorialized on the shore of Plymouth Harbor in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

==================

Mayflower II is a replica of the 17th-century ship Mayflower, celebrated for transporting the Pilgrims to the New World. The replica was built in Devon, England, during 1955–1956, in a collaboration between Englishman Warwick Charlton and Plymoth Plantation, an American museum. The work drew from reconstructed ship blueprints held by the American museum with hand construction by English shipbuilders’ using traditional methods. On April 20, 1957, recreating the original voyage, Mayflower II was sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, under the command of Alan Villiers.

Cucamonga Peak, Etiwanda, Rancho Cucamonga, California

6 10 2015

Cucamonga Peak

at 8,862 feet (2,701 m) is one of the highest peaks of the San Gabriel Mountains, and is located in San Bernardino County, California. It is within the Cucamonga Wilderness of the San Bernardino National Forest.

It was named after the 19th century Mexican land grant, Rancho Cucamonga, that was below it.

The mountain towers over the Inland Empire cities of Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario and Fontana.

The summit can be seen west of Cajon Pass on Interstate 15, the route from Southern California to Las Vegas.

The peak can also be seen on a extremely clear days from Mount San Jacinto 46 miles (74 km) to the southeast, and Santa Monica to the far west.

=======================================

Etiwanda, Rancho Cucamonga, California

In November 1881 George and William Chaffey purchased the land from Joseph Garcia, a retired Portuguese sea captain. The town was named for an Indian tribe living on the shores of Lake Michigan. As the first town planned by the Chaffey brothers, Etiwanda became their test bed. The Etiwanda Water Company, a mutual water company, and pipe system of irrigation designed by George Chaffey became the standard for water system management in southern California. Two other events are a further testament to the Chaffeys’ innovation. The first long-distance telephone call in southern California was completed between San
Bernardino and Etiwanda in 1882 and the Chaffey-Garcia house boasted electric lights on December 4, 1882.

The Pacific Electric Railway, the “Big Red Cars”, reached Etiwanda in 1914, with rails reaching Etiwanda from Upland by December 1913, on a line that connected San Bernardino to the east with the greater Los Angeles basin to the west. The line opened on March 24, 1914. Regular passenger operations ended on November 1,
1941, although specials operated for several years, especially during World War II. On October 1, 1951, the San Bernardino line was completely dieselized and the trolley wire was removed shortly thereafter. As of 2011, the 1914-vintage PE passenger station is being restored to an as-constructed state.
